Father and Son team together

Leiths

Fifteen year old William Mortimer, a pupil at Forres Academy, recently spent a week at New Forres Quarry learning to operate the weighbridge alongside his father. William was spending a few weeks taking part in various work experience activities organised by the Academy and Moray Council.

Heading off to Moray College in August to study Hospitality, and having already spent several weeks at the Ramnee Hotel in Forres, William thought some more customer service experience in a different environment would be advantageous, so his next stop was NFQ.

Put through his paces on Weighsoft, ordering materials for the quarry; importing sand, bitumen, filler etc., liaising with customers and a myriad of other administrative duties proved quite an eye opener for him as he thought ‘you just booked lorries in and out’.

Due to his age William was unable to take in the full quarry experience but was given an overview of quarry operations, how our stone and coated materials are produced and their uses, where the Leiths Group operates, the companies within the group and their roles.

Valuable experience for a young school leaver and some great father/son bonding time !
