New Asphalt Plant at Fort William Strengthens Supply across Lochaber and the West Highlands

Leiths

After identifying a gap in the regional market, the projects team relocated and refurbished an existing asphalt plant to create a new operational hub in Fort William.

The project began with the careful dismantling of the current asphalt plant in Newforres, which is set to be replaced by a higher-output facility in the future. The plant components were then transported to workshops in Aberdeen, where they underwent a full refurbishment before being reassembled at our Highland Lime quarry near Fort William. As part of the upgrade, the facility was completely rewired and fitted with a modern computerised batching system to improve efficiency, consistency and production control. Following commissioning works, the plant is now fully operational.

The new facility has already begun supplying materials for a range of projects, including works carried out for Highland Council, as well as contracts delivered by Highland Surfacing and the company’s own surfacing teams.

The investment is expected to improve asphalt availability across the Highlands while strengthening local infrastructure support for road maintenance and construction projects throughout the region.
