Ian Blackford MP visits Kishorn Port Ltd

KPL

Kishorn Port and Dry Dock recently welcomed Ian Blackford MP for Ross, Skye and Lochaber and Councillor Ian Cockburn for Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh, to highlight the excellent future opportunities available at Kishorn. Mr Blackford and Councillor Cockburn took a tour of Kishorn Port and Dry Dock, meeting with KPL Directors, Alasdair Ferguson and Simon Russell, who explained the unlocked potential of a site which is “shovel ready” to the industry.

With full planning permission in place at Kishorn Port and Dry Dock, we are actively considering further opportunities that may arise in oil and gas, fabrication, decommissioning, the renewable energy sectors and the marine, forestry and aquaculture industries.

Kishorn Port Ltd (KPL) has tremendous growth potential for Wester Ross and the Highlands, says Ian Blackford MP.

Speaking after his visit to Kishorn Port Ltd, Ian Blackford said:

“I was delighted to meet with Alasdair Ferguson and Simon Russell joint directors of KPL.

As a port with a long heritage in serving the energy industry since 1975, KPL took over the establishment in 2000 through Ferguson transport and shipping with Leith Group joining the partnership in 2006. The joint venture (KPL) have shown that they have a clear focus on long term sustainability and have invested more than £3m in the facilities to-date to enable it to attract new work and development of the port area. I was excited to hear of the desire of the company to continue to grow with a clear and concise focus on innovation and sustainable growth. Their commitment and enthusiasm to the future success of Kishorn Port and the area is second to none.’

KPL is suitable for multi energy sectors, aquaculture and decommissioning of the North Sea oil market. Many types of equipment can be trialled and constructed in low risk conditions within one of Europe’s largest dry docks and established quarry and port facilities.

The long term sustainability of KPL will be influenced by the investment in the renewable industry as well as developments in the existing gas and energy sectors in Scotland.  The Scottish and Westminster governments have a role to play in fostering the environment that can give Kishorn Port the ability to grow its already proven expertise in these areas.”

Commenting on the visit of Ian Blackford to KPL, Alasdair and Simon said;

 ‘We are pleased to welcome Ian Blackford our local MP to KPL. As a Scottish based company with UK and international trading partners. Kishorn Port is suitable for all energy sector and the pending decommissioning market. All types of equipment can be trialled and constructed in low risk conditions within one of Europe’s largest dry docks and established quarry and port facilities.’

The renewable industry and the existing oil and gas industry have significant potential in Scotland. It is these industries that have the long term growth potential of the Scottish energy sector and this should result in employment opportunities throughout the highlands.

For any community to prosper it needs to have a range of opportunities for employment. It is clear that Wester Ross is now home to a Port facility at KPL that has the potential to employ a considerable numbers of locals and offers future growth potential.
